"FIRE VICTIM RELIEF FUND"

Fire Victim Relief Fund

Guidelines:

Compassion must always rule the day!

Doyle Boudreaux - Administrator

What is the Fire Victim Relief Fund?

The Fire Victim Relief Fund has been established by the Lafayette Fire Fighters Association Local # 619 to help families take the first steps toward putting their lives back together after a devastating fire.

Who Qualifies for the Burn Fund?

Any family whose property has become unlivable due to fire damage, may qualify for some assistance. There are some requirements however, for a family to receive monetary assistance.

Benefits provided.

1. Any family or individual who has been burned out of their residence will obtain 2 free nights lodging at a local hotel. This is offered regardless of their financial situation.

2. A $200 donation is also provided in the first critical hours, to qualified families.

3. Clothing and other assistance is provided by area agencies.

4. News coverage showing the situation they are in to entice further assistance from the public.

Qualifications for $200 donation.

1. The first criteria is that the family or individual be in the lower income bracket. We have identified this to be an income of less than $12,000 per year.

2. The second factor is whether or not they are insured.

3. These factors are only guidelines to this policy, and the final decision is made by the Burn Fund administrator who has been given a generous amount of leeway in the decision making process, and has never turned down anyone who even came close to these guidelines. In fact several families have received the donation because of mitigating circumstances. Victims are then referred to the many agencies throughout the area for other forms of assistance.

Supporters of the Burn Fund!

bulletShoney’s Inn is the sole supporters of the first "2 night’s lodging offer". This is only available for the night of the fire and the next night.
bullet The American Red Cross treats every fire as a "disaster". They also locate immediate housing and pay the next months rent as well as other assistance.
bullet Goodwill helps with giving clothing to families that have lost everything. A special form must be obtained from the Burn Fund administrator for verification.
